Secure Multi Party Computation
Is it possible to develop data-driven AI solutions without direct access to the underlying data? One potential answer to this question is provided by the concept of Secure Multi-Party Computation (SMPC). This topic was extensively covered by Prof. Christian Rechberger during the 13th Inside Gaia-X Event hosted by Gaia-X Hub Austria. Prof. Rechberger heads the “Cryptography and Privacy” department at the Institute of Applied Information Processing and Communications Technology at TU Graz. He is also a Co-Founder of the Styrian startup TACEO, which focuses on the implementation of SMPC. In his presentation, Prof. Rechberger discussed the advantages of various Privacy Enhancing Technologies and explained the functioning principle of Secure Multi-Party Computation through a concrete example. Application areas of this technology include register data research or combating money laundering. In the context of Gaia-X, this technology could play a significant role in the development of applications based on distributed and decentralized data.
