„Gaia-X Hub Austria – Domain Public Administration“

Structure of the “Gaia-X Hub Austria – Domain Public Administration”
The public sector manages a large amount of data that is relevant for the administration of the state. Most of this data is stored in government registers and is generally (still) not interconnected. There are already well-developed services such as the Digital Austria Data Exchange (dadeX), which can support data exchange between authorities based on legal frameworks. Especially administrative data on citizens and businesses can provide significant benefits for a wide range of use cases in the public sector, but also for private sector applications. However, the necessary legal foundations or the technical resources and infrastructures for the efficient use of government data are often still lacking.

The Domain Public Administration of the Gaia-X Hub Austria is actively working on developing approaches to effectively support the public sector’s role in data sharing. A special focus lies on reusing already existing and proven eGovernment solutions (such as ID Austria, USP, dadeX, etc.) and strategically linking them with modern and existing frameworks and concepts of the data economy in order to create synergies. Both the professional and technical requirements for data sharing need to be identified and potential gaps closed. The national data strategy published last year provides the framework for these activities.
The Domain Public Administration therefore focuses on the following activities:
-
Knowledge exchange and network building: Establishing and maintaining partnerships with national and international key players in the public sector to share knowledge and best practices.
-
Requirement analysis and knowledge building: Identifying the professional and technical requirements for efficient data sharing with public data, as well as building expertise in this area.
-
Involvement of first movers and early adopters: Identifying and collaborating with pioneers to accelerate the development of innovative prototypes and new data-sharing approaches.
-
Review of legal frameworks: Analyzing the legal conditions to ensure secure and practical solutions.
